The River of God.

When I decided to write this blog my main desire was for God to prompt me about which stories to share, when He wanted them shared. Today, I feel Him asking me to share a story that has been over ten years in the making. What it has taught me is that God never gives up on us; especially when He has something that He needs us to do. We might not understand the why or how behind every prompt, but He knows what He is doing and trusting Him in what He is doing in our lives is the most important thing.

Over ten years ago I visited a friend’s house for a ‘Baby Prayer night’ (otherwise know as a ‘Baby Shower’). During the night, my eyes were drawn to a painting on the wall. I wasn’t sure why this painting captivated me so much because it was unlike the normal artworks that I enjoy. As I was leaving, I asked my friend, Katy, whom the painting belonged to, about it. She told me she’d bought it at a church conference many years before.

This painting had captured my attention and I didn’t know why! Over the next few years I was continually reminded of this painting. I decided I needed one. I recalled Katy advising it was titled ‘River of God’ and so I tried a Google search to see if I could locate a copy to purchase. My searches always failed!

I was able to recall the painting in my mind’s eye and so, having had no luck finding a way to purchase it, I decided to draw it myself – I quickly discovered that I am a pretty ordinary artist! I quickly gave up on this endeavour!

Several years later…

Painting ‘The River of God’ – Ps. Tim Hall

I was listening to Pastor Tim Hall preach a sermon at my church. My local church had just become a new campus of Planetshakers Church and Pastor Tim was visiting for the morning. During his preaching he mentioned that he was an artist and, up on the screen behind him, displayed one of his paintings. I recognised it immediately and quickly told my husband, Matthew, that this was the painting that I’d wanted for all of these years. He did a quick search on his phone and found it – ‘Rivers of God’ by artist Tim Hall. I couldn’t believe it! And, I definitely wanted a copy of it! Prints of this image could be purchased from the website Matthew had found and I half expected that I would receive one for Christmas that year – I didn’t!

Fast forward to 2017…

God had prompted me to complete part-time Bible College and I signed up for a 3 day intensive on the book of Ephesians with … Pastor Tim. On the second day, during the lunch break, I decided to share my story with him. I felt a bit silly whilst telling him about how taken I’d been with his painting but he seemed pretty chuffed about it. He said he probably had one kicking around in his office that I could purchase. Then, lunch ended and that was the end of it… or so I thought!

The following year I studied full-time at Planetshakers College. It was an amazing year and I was blessed to be taught by many incredible pastors and teachers. I got to know Pastor Tim a little bit more as his student and I used to wonder if my curiosity around this painting was because God knew, and was perhaps leading me, to this particular church and studying, under Pastor Tim, at Planetshakers College.

One afternoon, whilst sitting in the café at church, I noticed Ps. Tim having a coffee on the next table. Before I knew it I was out of my chair, asking him, AGAIN, about this painting. Long story short, I ended up purchasing a framed copy that he had in his office for a bargain price!!!

A reminder, from my armchair, during COVID-19.

I bought it home and, being too large and heavy to actually hang on my wall (we are in a rental property) it sits, on the floor, in my hallway and in my direct line of sight from my arm-chair.

It is a constant reminder of God’s love for me, that He never stops chasing me and He knows the plans He has for me.

Currently, the ENTIRE WORLD is in isolation due to COVID-19. My church meetings are held online and small groups ‘zoom’ to connect with each other. This morning, my small group leader, Greta, asked me to share this painting with our group. Then, Paster Russell preached a timely message titled ‘Supernatural Supply’ and he referenced the scripture in Revelation where it describes the ‘River of God’.

God knows our needs. He is our provider and He wants to supply and meet ALL of our needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus – Philippians 4:19.
